Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2009 - A power wine brand

We often talk about the power of brands. Well one of the biggest brands is Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2009.. Why the slavish interest in a wine which is good but I am sure there are plenty of other New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc’s that are just as good and at a fraction of the price. Yes I know I am wrong, you like a zesty gooseberry fruit filled glass of Cloudy as opposed to other similar wines. Besides it has plenty of bling, it sits nicely alongside the Cristal. Just to think most New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are struggling to find customers and yet Cloudy is in an enviable position whereby their wines are usually available on an allocation basis and only one or two bottles per person. We have just had some friends come back from New Zealand and they had a great time, friendly hospitable where people still do not lock their doors. Very different to my experience in South Africa, we went for 3 weeks and I came back with not 1 but 2 broken limbs as a result of being hit by a car whilst escaping a couple of muggers. The lesser of 2 evils as someone succinctly put it. I tasted a bottle of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and I thought t was light a fragrant, grassy tasting of passion fruit, pineapple and lime. Great stuff and perfect for parties. Next to the Cristal of course!
