Robert Parker 93 points has this to say:“Dow's 1992 Quinta do Bomfim is an expressive, fragrant, up-front style of port with a pungent, peppery, floral, cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, rich, chewy, ripe flavors, light tannin, and sensational extract and length. The wine explodes on the back of the palate, announcing its considerable richness and intensity. This port should drink well young, and last for 30 years.”
Wine Spectator 92 points. "Much better than from barrel. Perhaps better than Dow's blended 1991 vintage Port. This is big and concentrated, presenting masses of velvety tannins and intensely ripe violet, raspberry and cherry flavors. It goes on and on."
Quinta do Bomfim, Dow’s finest vineyard acquired and planted by the firm in 1890, is situated in perhaps the most favoured location in the mountainous country of the demarcated Douro region. Its profusion of terraced vineyards, close to the village of Pinhao occupy south-facing slopes which run from the ridge of hills above the property down to the river Douro. This position on the north bank of the Douro allows the vines well above the average exposure to sunshine and guarantees full maturity of the grapes at harvest time.
The entire Quinta has the top grade “A” classification and in “declared” years its finest wines form the core of Dow’s famed Vintage Ports. In many other years the Quinta produces wines of consistently high quality, and in these years the best wines are selected for early bottling and treated in all respects as Vintage Port. This Quinta do Bomfim should be stored lying down and always decanted prior to serving, as it will throw a heavy sediment in the bottle.
Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port is normally ready to drink from about its 10th year but will also benefit by keeping for many years more.
